Like Any Other Mortal
On a distant planet, a lonely robot roams around looking for signs of life, while scientists search for unknown life forms in Andalusia. A visionary journey with deep philosophical resonance.
The stunningly beautiful images tell the story of ‘Like Any Other Mortal’, a visionary film that connects a thought-provoking search for the mysterious origins of life across time and space. On a distant planet, a robot searches for minerals and signs of life. At the same time, an old miner searches for traces of his childhood village under tons of mineral waste, while astrobiologists are on the trail of the so-called ‘Dark Biosphere’ – an unknown life form that could turn all our theories about evolution upside down.
In other words: this is a film that must be experienced in the cinema. Filmmaker Maria Molina Peiró’s impressive debut is a science fiction documentary and a monumental visual work that delves into the biggest questions with few words. From distant planets to a mine landscape in Andalusia, which the local tourist office has dubbed Río Tinto – Mars on Earth. A cinematic experience that questions the boundaries between faith and progress, and between life and the non-living.
